About Mind Matters
My story:
Dr. David Bowler
David graduated from Medical School at the University of Cape Town and completed his internship at Groote Schuur Hospital and post-graduate residency in Yorkshire, concentrating on internal medicine sub-specialties leading to passing the examinations for Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
From 1986 -2014 he worked in full-service family practice in rural and small town settings before moving to a referral-based musculoskeletal pain clinic in Victoria. He is a board and teaching faculty member of the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BC Division) and is trained in several counselling techniques for pain removal.
He is certified in family medicine, medical acupuncture, hypnotherapy, and pain management, having completed the Post-Graduate Certificate in Pain Management from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta. He is a University of British Columbia clinical instructor.
If you have phobias, panic attacks, past trauma, or chronic pain that has been thoroughly checked out but not responded to conventional treatments, then this website is for you.
It is a privilege and pleasure to work in this paradise, Vancouver Island, where we call home. It is also a privilege and pleasure to play a role in our patients’ recovery. Despite living in such a magnificent country, one in five Canadians suffers from chronic pain, 75% of whom state that their pain is poorly controlled. Modern medicine does a very good job at treating acute illnesses and injuries but has limited success in reducing chronic pain or enhancing wellness.
This website is intended to introduce you to some well-established but less well-known tools or techniques within a medical setting, that potentially can help reduce chronic pain and distress without the risks associated with drugs and invasive interventions.
